Artist Biography

Born in 1993 in Kavala, Greece, Mariela Alepopoulou is a contemporary visual artist based in Thessaloniki since 2011.

She studied Forestry and Natural Environment Management at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, while her artistic education developed through independent study, specialised training and formal art courses.

Her artistic journey began in 2013 with Byzantine icon painting, an introduction to traditional artistic techniques and visual expression. In 2020, she expanded her practice into digital painting, which has since become her primary artistic medium. She predominantly creates her works using Procreate, combining contemporary digital techniques with her personal artistic approach.

Her artistic training also includes three years of Fine Art and Design studies at a private art school, alongside a wide range of educational programmes in art history, contemporary art, illustration, photography and emerging technologies. Her continuing education includes courses offered by internationally recognised institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, Sapienza University of Rome and the University of Pennsylvania.

Since 2024, her work has been presented in solo and group exhibitions, international art fairs and collaborative artistic projects across Greece and Europe, including Italy, the Czech Republic and Serbia.

Alongside her visual art practice, she has pursued photography since 2017, with a particular interest in landscape, nature and macro photography.
